Your score is one number. Your padrinos decide what it is worth.

How far you get in the challenge is up to your practice. How much that is worth is up to how many padrinos you found. This is the part you can start on today.

Every padrino raises what your point is worth

Each padrino pledges whatever they like, and their pledges add together. That total is what one point of yours is worth — and it goes up every time somebody says yes.

Your Padrino Point Value

Every padrino's pledge, added together. That is what one point of yours is worth. Ten cents from one, two dollars from another — it all goes into the same number, and the number only ever goes up.

It is the one thing you control completely. Your score depends on how the run goes; your point value depends only on how many people you asked.

Who said yesYour point is now worthA nine-round run
Abuela · $1.00$1.00$45.00
Your tía · 25¢$1.25$56.25
A neighbour · 10¢$1.35$60.75
Your coach · 50¢$1.85$83.25
An uncle in Orlando · $2.00$3.85$173.25
Four more, whatever they chose · $1.15$5.00$225.00

Nine rounds the whole way down. Only the padrinos changed.

This is the number to grow. Your score is the same however many padrinos you have, so every padrino you find raises the value of every point you go on to score — including the ones you have not scored yet.

There is no amount too small to ask for

Ten cents a point is a real pledge. So is two dollars. People give what suits them, and none of them need to know what anyone else gave — they only see their own.

So do not decide for them. Ask everyone, let each one choose their own number, and watch what your point is worth climb.

You have two weeks

Pledging opens two weeks before the run and closes when the run happens. Once you have taken your official run, nobody else can pledge on it — so every padrino has to be found before then.

Week 1 Ask everyone you can Family first, then neighbours and friends. This is the week that decides your total.
Week 2 Follow up, and practise Chase the people who said they would and forgot. Practise as much as you like — none of it counts yet.
Run day One official run Pledging closes. Whatever you score is what every padrino is invoiced on.

Who to ask

A padrino is anyone who would be glad you asked. Most people find ten without leaving the family.

Parents, and both sets of grandparents
Aunts, uncles, older cousins
Godparents, and your parents' close friends
Neighbours you actually know
A coach, a teacher, a former teacher
Family who live far away — distance does not matter

The ones who live furthest away are often the quickest to say yes. They cannot come to anything, and this is something they can be part of.
